And voila the drive works. Just wanted to check back in to confirm that the light fix is still working for me. A few weeks and tens of GBs later the neutered FreeAgent is still going freeagent 500gb. It spools up much quicker, and actually shuts down when it freeagent 500gb asked to.

I wish I had seen this forum before I bought the freeagent!! I would had probably changed my freeagent 500gb Anyways, mine appears to be working nicely for 1 week now ,except that sometimes transfers data at very low rates.

We have had several of those running smoothly for ages here, while I have had two Seagates misbehave on me in quick succession. I will be getting a WD next time. Mizzenmast: Mine FA makes a bit of noise and vibration when transferring data. Had the same problem with freeagent GB desktop using vista. Would work for a bit, then just stop responding. Files would seem to disappear. Unplug, leave for an hour and plug back freeagent 500gb, okay for a freeagent 500gb. Though may have been in a semi crashed state when I did the first test.

Thanks for the fix. Would not have been the first thing I thought of. Well folks, I have a slightly different problem with my freeagent. Unlike most of you folks, mine has been working flawlessly. I use it to carry back and forth between work and home so that I have files to use both places. This morning, I plugged my drive up to work on a project at work.
